This Dracaena marginata is growing in a clear plastic basket liner resting on expanded clay pebbles inside the ceramic planter. The porous clay pebbles provide a reservoir and wicking action to move water up into the artificial soil mix.
The plant was an ordinary 6" pot plant from a big box store in August 2006. This is how it looked then.
The ceramic bowl it's in now cost about $6. It has a very slight (unnoticeable) chip on the rim. As previously posted, planters like this are widely available if you know where to look. The key is that you do not need a drain hole when you use sub-irrigation. It's better for you and for your plants.
