Greenhouse Grower: Aqualok Sub-irrigation Debuts At Retail

Has anyone seen these Aqualok hanging baskets in a Lowe's or other garden center? If you bought one, let us all know what you think about it.

Lowe’s clearly had the most customers per store, and its garden centers were stocked with a large assortment of outstanding merchandise. For the first time, I saw the Aqualok program in 10-inch hanging baskets retailing at $15.98. The same item without the Aqualok was $10.98. The Aqualok foam is said to allow the consumer to go seven days between watering, hopefully driving increased consumer success.

The potential for this new material called Aqualok is enormous. If the price is right it could help to move sub-irrigation into the mainstream market where it belongs. Drain hole top-watering is inefficient, wasteful and anything but green.
