Ignore the background. These two tomato plants in a homemade sub-irrigated grow box could be growing anywhere there is at least 6 hours of sunlight. Anywhere in your city!
Have a look at the large version of the photo on the right and you'll see the abundance of little tomatoes.

Yes, those are the same 2 tomato plants seen in the original photo. We harvest a pint of tomatoes from this planting about every other day. Pretty amazing stuff.
Check out the growth of sub-irrigated pepper plants in about 9 square feet (3' x 3') of space on my fire escape.

im ben, and im writing from australia.
I built a couple of homemade sub irrigation planters, similar to the above, however.
im not sure if its working?
Ive used the correct soil etc, but not sure, the plants dont seem to have taken off, and its been 11 days. they were limp the first few days. How can i tell if its working, before i was to lose any of my plants. it cost a bit to setup.
